NCIRE – The Veterans Health Research Institute is the leading private nonprofit research institute in the United States devoted to Veterans health. NCIRE supports the research of over 200 MD and PhD principal investigators at the San Francisco VA Medical Center who work to improve health and health care for Veterans and active military personnel.

The San Francisco VA Medical Center has the largest funded research program in the Veterans Health Administration with $70 million in research expenditures. The SFVAMC is affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco - Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and Pharmacy.
