Brief Description

As of January 2017, PAVIR employs 231 staff, most of whom directly work on research projects aimed at improving health care. PAVIR’s core administration offices include 32 employees. PAVIR is actively supporting clinical research and has professional staff to support project development. We closely collaborate and support the VAPAHCS's growing Center for Clinical Research. PAVIR administers 173 active projects. This includes 52 Federal Prime Awards, 33 Federal sub-agreements, 52 industry sponsored awards, 20 non-Federal awards and 16 with various sponsors. VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. VAPAHCS operates over 800 beds, including three nursing homes and a 100-bed homeless domiciliary - all to serve more than 80,000 enrolled Veterans. VAPAHCS has the third largest research program in VHA and maintains a strong, cooperative affiliation with Stanford University. The VAPAHCS non-profit corporation, Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR), has helped make VAPAHCS a leader in research.
