Brief Description

SLVHCS is a Complexity Level 3 Tertiary Care facility academically affiliated with Tulane University School of Medicine (TUSOM), the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, and the Louisiana State University School of Public Health. It operates a research program involving human subjects, laboratory animals, and hazardous agents, with funded direct costs of approximately $1.7 million in FY2015, of which approximately $1.4 million was provided by the VHA Office of Research and Development (ORD). The Louisiana Veterans Research and Education Corporation (LAVREC) nonprofit corporation provides a flexible funding mechanism for non-VA sponsored research at SLVHCS. SLVHCS maintains its own R&DC and IRB. SLVHCS has also executed an MOU to utilize the VHA Central IRB (CIRB) as an IRB of record for participation in multi-site studies.
