    Brief Description

    VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) is a tertiary care facility with an acute care facility in the heart of Baltimore city, a long-term care facility north of city central, a psychiatric facility in Perryville, MD and numerous outpatient facilities through the state of Maryland. The Baltimore Research and Education Foundation (BREF) was established in 1990, has managed research projects in the above listed major research areas, has managed numerous educational grants. Research projects managed by have been sponsored by various non-VA federal agencies, industrial sponsors and various national and local foundations. All investigators with appointments at the VAMHCS are eligible to have research and/or educational projects managed by BREF. Most of those investigators have a dual appointment at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
