Brief Description

Over the past 20 years, the TVAREF has partnered with the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital to develop a diverse research portfolio dedicated to investigating a variety of ailments afflicting the nation's veterans and their rehabilitation. TVAREF plays a crucial role in supporting VA physicians and researchers as they endeavor to understand how, why, and when diseases afflict the human system. TVAREF facilitates collaborative efforts between the VA Hospital, academic institutions, government research organizations, and private companies by administering a variety of programs. TVAREF partners with the private sector to provide faculty, staff, and providers with opportunities to advance their knowledge in their respective fields of healthcare. Through this expanded authority, TVAREF can manage resources to continue education and training so that we may have the most advanced healthcare workforce.

The total dollar volume of grants processed by TVAREF in 2016 is $1.8 million. These grants cover a multitude of studies including: Prostate Cancer, Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD and Diabetes. The research efforts of the VA and our Foundation has a direct impact on the 90,000 patients that were serviced by the JAHVH in 2016 and a future benefit to the 221,000 veterans living in the Tampa region. Currently, the foundation is maintaining 32 active grants funded through DOD, NIH, AHRQ and private companies to the immediate benefit of the Tampa Bay veterans community and eventually the community as a whole.
