The Veterans Medical Research Foundation (VMRF) is a not-for-profit research corporation, dedicated to its vision that every Veteran will receive the finest research-based care. VMRF's purpose is to promote biomedical and health services research through comprehensive research resource management.
VMRF was established in 1989 as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located on the grounds of the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). VMRF is one of the top three largest of 83 active VA Foundations, with an annual budget of $20 million in fiscal year 2016 and a staff of approximately 170 employees. VMRF works closely with the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) and VA Southern California (VASNHS); VMRF administered research is conducted at the VASDHS and VASNHS and benefits from thorough VA review and compliance processes.
VMRF is the only San Diego research entity focusing on improving health care for Veterans. Working in partnership with our physicians and scientists, VMRF provides world-class medical research designed to benefit our Veterans which in turn also benefit the population as a whole. Veterans Medical Research Foundation research breakthroughs in shingles prevention, smallpox, alcoholism, post-traumatic stress and heart disease have all been extended to the general population.
VMRF's mission is to enhance the health of veterans of all generations through research and education. Those who courageously serve in our nation's military deserve exceptional care.
